TroonArt Galleries: Shadow Frames
My assemblage boxes have grown into a series of “inside-out” pieces, worked within the structure of standard canvasses that have the surfaces cut open. These pieces come from a desire to create an inner scene which might lie beneath a carefully painted veneer, an inner landscape or emotion that might come into view when you look closely.
The first cut through the painted canvas is surprisingly hard, while the choosing and mounting of integral parts is conversely exciting and satisfying. Each assemblage contains symbols of my own inner diorama: an old fragment from my father’s workshop, old dictionary pages, collected ephemera and a tiny landscape made from bits of tissue or old collages.
